Private Music

Private Music Lessons

As an advocate of STEAM education, FSAPS offers private music lessons for students of the school. This individualized instruction includes studies in:

  • technique including scales, chords and arpeggios
  • practice methods
  • music theory, sightreading and ear training
  • ABRSM and a wide variety of repertoire including the masterworks

We offer private music lessons in many instruments and areas of study: Piano, Voice, Guitar, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass Violin, Clarinet, Flute, Ukulele, Saxophone, Accordion, Percussion, Trumpet, Trombone, Banjo, Mandolin, Theory, Conducting, Composition, and more. We support the Band and Orchestra Programs. Please inquire if you do not see an instrument here that you are interested in learning how to play or an area of study. Lessons are scheduled during recess and after school.

ABRSM (We are now an ABRSM Exam Center.)

Beginning students are encouraged to prepare for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Preparatory Exam in the Spring. Intermediate & Advanced Students should be accessed by their Private Music Teacher as to what grade they should begin the program. We welcome any existing ABRSM students! Inquiries should be addressed to the student’s private music teacher.

Senior Home Performances & Festivals

Students are encouraged to perform at senior homes and enter North Fulton Music Teachers Association festivals. Inquiries should be addressed to the student’s private music teacher.

Recitals

Performances will be held at the end of each semester. Recognition of significant accomplishments will be made during this event. Families and guests are welcome to attend.

Joseph Kirkland

Founder, Director Head of Guitar and Strings Education

A life-long musician from Southeast Georgia, Mr. Kirkland is classically trained in the disciplines of Voice, Percussion, Classical Guitar, and Music Composition. He comes from a long tradition of family musicians and has experience performing most genres, both popular and academic. His broad teaching experience includes directing school programs in addition to youth music programs across many communities.

Chandler M. Greer is a musician and songwriter based in Atlanta, GA. Chandler has been trained extensively in classical and jazz saxophone, as well as clarinet and flute.  He is actively gigging in the Atlanta community and is a co-founder of and songwriter with the jazz fusion band Misnomer. The band won Flagpole Awards in 2017 for Artist and Album of the Year. Chandler has had the opportunity to perform and record with a variety of acts in Atlanta and beyond as part of Misnomer, his horn trio, and as a guest performer. His passion for music began in early, childhood as part of a musical family. He earnestly believes that music as a family activity helps build stronger relationships and promotes higher self-confidence among children. Chandler also believes in cultivating a love for music during lesson time and providing children with context for why practicing and discipline are crucial to success.

Hannah Smith graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2018 with a Bachelor in Arts: Voice Concentration. While in college, she auditioned and was accepted for the Opera Viva program which took place in Verona, Italy in July 2016 and July 2018. During her stay, she studied under renowned performance instructors and performed in several concerts. Throughout the years, Hannah has learned clarinet, percussion, piano, and classical voice. She also has worked with children’s choirs and church music camps. While a senior in high school, she was selected to be part of the Georgia Ambassadors of Music and traveled throughout Europe for two weeks performing concerts in 7 countries

DAVID DUCHARME

DAVID DUCHARME

Head of Audio Services, Lessons Instructor

David Ducharme is Adjunct Faculty of Audio Production Engineering at Pellissippi State Community College. He is a classically trained musician and audio engineer with a B.Mu. in Music Technology (Recording/Music Production) from Georgia State University School of Music and Certificate in Guitar from Berklee College of Music. His primary technologist teachers include Seva David-Louis Ball (Associate Founder of Waves) and Dr. Robert Scott Thompson (Professor of Composition and Music Technology).

Highlighted technician encounters include engagements with national artists such as Russ, members from the Atlanta Symphony/Chorus, Katie Noel, Carmen Bradford, T-Pain, Hawthorne Heights, and more. As a performing guitarist, he has toured the nation and was selected for the 2013 classical guitar master class with Maestro Pepe Romero from the Royal Guitar Family. He’s had former guitar students accepted into college music programs and currently maintains a full-time instrument teaching studio.

His current research interests include intersections between equal temperament music theory and analog/digital signal transducer technologies. Prior to his appointment at Pellissippi, David served as an audio software instructional staff in the Instructional Design department at Georgia State University and audio-visual technician in the School of Music. He’s taught applied music at private schools, various music academies, and is a recipient of the Bill Lowery Endowed Music Industry Scholarship.
