DESCRIPTION
Curious about how to create a strong and original college essay that will make your application stand out to college admission boards? Do you want to hone your short story and poem writing abilities? In this class, we will dedicate about half the time to creating strong college essays. We will look at prompts, past exemplar essays, and discuss tried and true writing strategies.
We will also learn the fundamentals of writing short stories, poetry, playwriting, graphic novels, and other short writing exercises depending on student interest. Students will receive direct instruction and see strong examples of each form of writing. Then students will have time to work on their pieces and receive individualized feedback from the instructor as they write. Finally, all students will participate in workshopping by reading their pieces aloud and receiving helpful feedback from peers. By the end of the course, students will have a strong college essay as well as a small booklet of other original works.
