Elementary Reading Bowl

Head Coaches: Ms. Michaud, Mrs. Wisniewski
Elementary Reading Bowl is a competitive reading team created to participate in the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl each year. Students accepted to the team will read ten award-winning chapter books selected by the Reading Bowl committee. Students study and practice with these books, then students engage in gameshow-style competitions against other schools. Students participating in Reading Bowl learn crucial study, organization, and academic skills including academic independence and accountability, teamwork and collaboration, reading comprehension, analytical reading/book analysis, and more! Reading Bowl is unique to academic teams because it requires both immersive teamwork and independent studies. Students compete in rounds where they are asked questions about the books (moderators may ask absolutely anything about any of the books) and students buzz in to answer. Each team has the potential to earn 60 points per round, and each round is played against a different school. At the end of all rounds, points are totaled and the highest-scoring school wins the competition. Two schools from every level advance to the next level, beginning with county and going through state. This is an amazing opportunity for avid readers to delve into specially selected books and engage with other students about the texts!
