Fulton Science Academy Wins the 2021 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award.

WASHINGTON D.C. September 21, 2021 – U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 325 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said, “This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” said Secretary Cardona. “I commend this school and all our Blue Ribbon honorees for working to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs. In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children. Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better.”
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content.
The Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, subgroup student scores and graduation rates:

Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.

Fulton Science Academy wins this award under the Exemplary High-Performing Schools category. Fulton Science Academy’s founding principal, Dr. Kenan Sener, said, “What a remarkable and well-deserved recognition for our community in our 10th year as a school. From the first day we opened our school, our vision has always included becoming a nationally ranked and recognized school because we strive to offer the best education possible to our precious students. Accordingly, four years ago, we added winning the National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award as a goal in our 5-year strategic plan. This goal meant that we would go above and beyond to improve all aspects of our school to foster a caring and quality learning environment conducive to our students determining their goals and achieving their dreams. Today, we have the immense joy of reaching this highly prestigious milestone. From the bottom of my heart, I extend a big THANK YOU to each and every person who contributed to this journey of success. The first decade of our school has been very rewarding, with many success stories. The success stories that will unfold for our school community in the future are limitless if we stick to our core values of I CARE: Integrity, Curiosity, Advocacy, Resiliency, and Empathy. We look forward to going to Washington D.C. this November to receive this award and bring it home. Congratulations to our big-hearted and hard-working students, faculty members, parents, and local community members for this national achievement. What a team we are! Let’s celebrate it.”
